COVID-19 Updates

In an effort to stop the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, First Pres has taken proactive steps as a church to protect the spread of the virus.  This means we cannot physically meet together for worship services, events, or meetings.  We will let you know here when restrictions are lifted and we can meet again in some capacity.

Student Life Camp , the camp for middle and high school students, has been cancelled by that organization.  Kimberly Sanders is contacting the parents who have signed up their students regarding when they will get a refund on their deposits.

Session met on May 18th and decided that there will not be any summer camps this summer - which this year would have been VBS and music camp.  For those who signed up for music camp, you will receive a refund on the credit card that you used.  The Session did not take this decision lightly.  There was a great deal of sorrow in deciding this and a sense of loss for the children and for our church.  The priority of keeping people safe, the decisions made by many churches and school boards and other organizations to cancel summer camps, along with the effort required to practice social distancing led to this decision.

The Session affirmed the recommendations that they were given for gathering together again.  This would in essence be a phase one gathering for worship at FPC.  The requirement of masks, cleaning protocols, screening attendees, entry and exit doors open, limited seating on every other pew, etc. are all part of this initial plan.  We will begin to get the necessary people and supplies in place so that when we do gather for worship we will be ready.

There was no decision made about when we might gather for worship.  We are going to wait until we see things open up a bit more before we consider gathering for worship.  As Florida moves to phase 2 it seems like we would gather again.  Of course, that could be soon or it could be delayed.  We will continue to monitor the situation and be ready to open our doors when we feel it is safe to do so.

We will continue to offer worship in an online format and will continue to do so even after we can host people in the sanctuary for worship.  There will be no groups meeting in the buildings at this point.  This will be addressed in our phase 2-4 plans.

All worship services are available on YouTube and this website.  We will continue to have our pre-recorded worship services (traditional and The Way) available for you each week.

For Holy Week, we had daily devotionals based on the Gospel of John, which included beautify music, which are available for you to still see, and can  be accessed by clicking the button below.

SERVICES & DEVOTIONALS

Collecting tithes and offerings remains a beautiful act of worship each week.   There are a few different methods through which one can give while we are not meeting on campus.

  • Via our secure giving website
  • Via text message - Simply text an amount you would like to give to the number: 561-283-0061. Visit our Ways to Give page for further instruction.
  • Via your bank's website through the bill pay option
  • Mail your check to First Presbyterian Church, 717 Prosperity Farms Rd., North Palm Beach, FL 33408

We are also accepting gifts to our Samaritan's Pocket fund which is used to help individuals in need of financial assistance.  Designate "Sam's Pocket" in the memo through your preferred method of giving.  If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact Cindy Medlin at 561-427-3313.

Our seminary resident, Josh Bartz, and his wife, Taylor, who handles the church's social media, put together a short video on how to use the church website, YouTube and Facebook pages.  Here is the link to see this:   https://youtu.be/shPo8eQSwLI

We have asked  our elders, deacons and staff members to check in with our church members and family.  We hope these calls make you feel connected.  We also encourage you to call your own circle of church friends.  During this time of social distancing and self-quarantining, some people are feeling very isolated or depressed.  Reaching out and talking with each other is a great thing to do.

Each of our program departments are communicating with  the people involved in each ministry area.  We are planning to post video teachings, which you will be able to find here. We are navigating these new circumstances as best as we can and will post items here.

As residents of Florida, as hurricane season is approaching, we have been notified by Florida Power & Light that restoration of power will likely be slower than we have come to expect because of the Covid-19 guidelines, so we suggest that you begin stocking up on supplies, checking your generators, etc.  Tax-free purchases begin May 29th.

We all need to remember that God is in control, He is not surprised by what is happening in the world today, and He will never leave you nor forsake you.  Take this time He has given us, away from our normal routines and busyness of life to seek His face, by praying and reading His Word.
